UV light has been used to protect our hospitals, drinking water and swimming pools for decades, however our disinfection wash and heat treatment processes represent a step-change on what is currently available in the fresh cut fruit and vegetable processing industries. 100% surface exposure and controlled heat treatment of the produce eliminates pathogens such as E.coli, Listeria and Salmonella and allows other microbial / bacteria count and contaminants to be significantly reduced and controlled.

Disinfection by ultraviolet radiation is well documented and unlike with traditional chemical disinfection practices, the targeted organism is unable to develop immune mechanisms. In simple terms the UV 254 kill involves the absorption of photons of UV energy by the food borne bacteria, pathogen and virus DNA; this fuses the DNA and prevents replication.

In practice, the efficiency of a UV Disinfection System is measured by its actual ability to inactivate the pathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungus spores, yeasts etc.) on exposed surfaces and liquids.

In the instance of producing sliced apples the temperature controlled fluid contains a mixture of naturally produced minerals and vitamins which act as anti-oxidant or anti-browning agents. A dosing system to maintain the correct ingredient-ratio is part of our solution.
